Certified in general surgery, Dr. Nelson brings his expertise in elective and emergent surgery to the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Surgery group. His focus includes stomach, small bowel, colon, gallbladder and bile ducts, and advanced hernia repair surgeries. He is also certified in advanced trauma life support and advanced cardiac life support. Dr. Nelson earned his degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia and completed his surgery residency at Allegheny General Hospital. A member of the American College of Surgeons and Christian Medical and Dental Association, Dr. Nelson is also an adjunct assistant clinical professor of surgery at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. He volunteers as a mission surgeon for Pan African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS) and has performed surgery with limited resources at Kijabe Hospital in Kijabe, Kenya, and at Bongolo Hospital in Lebamba, Gabon. Dr. Nelson has medical staff privileges at Allegheny General Hospital and West Penn Hospital.
