Walter E. McGregor, MD is an accomplished cardiac surgeon who offers expertise in mitral valve disease, robotic heart surgery, transcatheter mitral repair, and complex surgical reconstructive techniques.
As the Director of Allegheny Health Network's Cardiac Surgery Division, he has developed a multidisciplinary mitral disease program offering unique treatments to patients in Western Pennsylvania that incorporate robotic and catheter based technologies for enhanced recovery and improved outcomes. He is known as a clinical leader in this field and is designated as a mitral reference center surgeon by the American Heart Association. He also serves as a key investigator on several clinical trials assessing novel percutaneous mitral and tricuspid valve treatments.
Recognized for his commitment to resident development, he serves as Director for the Thoracic Surgery Residency Program, maintains Associate Professorship at Drexel University College of Medicine, and is previously a funded investigator for the NIH. He is known to be a true role model and mentor for the residents and maintains an environment of scholarly commitment for his trainees. Dr. McGregor received his medical degree from an accelerated 6 year BS/MD program at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, and is an active member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Mensa International.
