After earning her medical degree at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Dr. Lavelle completed her obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences residency and a fellowship in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery at Magee-Womens Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

She is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Urogynecologic Society, and Society for Gynecologic Surgeons. She is also the primary researcher for a study of acute urinary retention following pelvic reconstructive surgery.
